Post NB Pacesetters 30km run

Well what u think is enough is never is...here goes....

I woke up very early in the morning at 3.30 am lagi, i just can't sleep anxious and restless i guess, after watching Blind Side , feeling kind of hype and happy...it could be the stories is about a unpolished football star....
made myself some endurance drinks which i bought from the sale at GNC as a substitute for solid food or i will have indigestion problems later during the run,  i was very very nervous about the run since my running buddies are all very very senior in long distance run, i ni jer yang rookie hehehe plus some tormented mental picture about the torturous routes, tapi pelik ramai yang kata Ok jer...memang Power ler depa tur...

Reached the Bukit Aman carpark at 4.00 am, gile awal, there are only few cars parked there, dtg awal sebab takut penuh then Abg Syah arrives then Diket n frenzs, prep ourselves then we moved to Padang Merbok met up with Bro Ian, Nick and Kak Kash, masing masing look surprisingly calm, aku jer kot yang mengelabah ayam heheh, entah ler...i guess u will know why...in the end

since the run will start way about half an a hour before the fajr prayer, i  went some shopping yesterday and bought myself a three quarter running pant instead, hehhe so senang ler nak solat, the run start exactly at 5.30 am, as usual u had to walk until u passed the starting arch. We were running in the dark around the  Tugu Negara, i was pacing together with kak Kash as usuall Bro Ian, Nik, Diket and Shuk (makan asap depa jer lar aku ni) having trouble running with pouch kept jumping to much causing uneasiness during the run thn je lar kalau  i had to carry the bottle all the way, penat gak tur....

my pacing was ok jer, mungking sbb dah wat LSD kat situ so that i was a little bit prepared ler on how the route will be thus making it a little bit easy ler, my legs was still ok, in my mind at that time just as we about to reach Jalan Duta was?..mm fajr praying time is about to be over, i engaged on a faster pace, remember abg syah said they planned to peform their fajr prayer at Petronas's Hartamas ( dah sorok kain katanyer..i wonder camner ler dia wat yer??)as for me as soon i saw a surau at nearby terus masuk, tak jadi ke Petronas, mula mula rasa macam malu to enter the surau, was due to the fact that they were having Tazkirah session tibe tibe jer aku masuk dgn keadaan berpeluh sakan nak solat subuh,,,???after solat i was back on track, on high gear to catch up the time lost (should i say gain in a positive way) on my back to Bukit Tunku routes i was mentally downed, the uphill round was a bit too much on my feet , it started to twitch i hate when that happens i the middle of the kilometers, yikes....i took my ORS salt as Che would said dah terlewat ler Bro...

whenever i stops a while the strained and pulled in the muscles were getting stronger i hated when that happened, kept on pushing myself, chanting the mantra u must finish this run and the worst started to happen- i can't no longer run even though i had the energy to blast me to the moon ,my knee and muscle were pulling me downed and begging me to slow down, i did , what i never did at any road races, power walk or literally walk..no use to stretch the muscle at this point while u still have another 20 km to go, the double hill at Bukit Tunku really stretched my knees and muscle to the limit, when it comes to the Jalan Mahameru i knew i could not go on anymore up the hill climb, i decided to power walk instead and constantly crying and praying to Almighty please let me finish this race,

planned to run the last leg of the race at Padang Merbok stretch but my muscles were not letting me flexed too much so i power walk instead, felt ashamed looking at the older woman and men passed by me, who cares this my race against me, i should be able to reach the finish line in time, there are only a few 30 km runners at that time and i was left far behind, even though i had the energy to run but my muscle resist cooperate with my heart instead power walk all the way, the last stretch pun bukit , aiyo

lega rasenyer when crossing the finish line, syukur sgt, i did not gave up due to my injuries, i was so frustrated and saddened by my time and the condition I'm in, actually i did cried in my car when Bro Ian left ( cry baby kan i ni..a way to express my deepest frustration kot) after we had some brief chat while waiting for his friends, Not just because of the pain but the fact that i had failed to achieved my target,

I had ditched out my friend wedding instead treat myself for a karaoke session with close friends

I am ashamed of myself and not proud at all with this race...well this will be a major lesson for me,to know my limits...

Final Verdict : time 3 hr 34 mins, surprisingly no leaking problems but end up with massive blow on the knees, will i ever be ready for marathon ? I guess u know the answer..

  1. My advice is when running a new distance first time, dont put pressure on yourself with timing, just aim to finish strong. In time, you'll learn how to pace and enjoy the race, whatever the outcome.

    Congrats, anyway.

  2. sorry to hear that Shaqi. Kash is right! Always aim to enjoy the race and finish strong, injury free. You are being too hard on yourself. The fact that you have a gut to do a long distance race is inspirational to me.

Heads up, you have done it good, regardless of time.

  3. Collect your thoughts. It should be handy leading the road to marathon. Insyallah boleh. Primary mission is to finish it with joy. Thumbs up bro.

  4. like what the.resy.said, you are just too hard on yourself with the expectations. main thing is to get a good feel of the distance and experience, and building on it with more races in the future.

one can do better taking the pressure off ya and enjoying the experience. i'm still learning myself, step by step no matter how long it takes.

  5. hey... you finished the 30k.. it's a good thing ok. i know to some people forgetting about the timing is hard, but you've got to allow yourself to feel good about other things than the time sometimes.

  6. Shaqi,
Give yourself a pat on the back.
Look around in your office, see how many colleagues around u that have done even a 10km run?
And you've done few 10km, 21km and now, you've just crossed the 30km finishing line.
    Awesome job dude!

Now, it is important for u to rest those knees and muscles. Once they are ok, u can plan for more LSD runs and with what u've learnt on Sunday, i'm sure you won't do the same mistakes again.

  7. shaqi,
you did so blardy darn good as compared to me when I first ran the 30km. In fact, you were one hour faster. Now, go out and train for your maiden marathon :) and start to listen to your body so that you can run injury-free. have fun with the training!

  8. Bro Shaq. It was a 30K! Seeing that number itself could scare other ppl (me included). Please put on that Finisher's T with pride (and again ppl like me could only watch in envy).

    Cheers.

  10. Thanks all of u for the support, i do admit here that i am pushing myself way too hard just to know where my limits are, i know now,

After deep thought yesterday, well i should be proud of myself for finishing the race although i sustained some injuries, better train well next time..(lesson learn), may be next race i will be even better.

The muscles' strains slowly diminishing but the knee seems to be on and off whenever i walked,

Just got back from the Doctor, he said may be its the tendon it would be ok , it can be repaired in time however if the pains persist then off to the Specialist, yikes..

Well hopefully i'll be up and ready for my next run..yeeehaaaa

  11. even with the unexpected pain, etc, you still did great! 3:34 is a decent timing for attempting 30k for the first time
